SATUC Tournament | Sharm El Sheikh

On the first day of the tournament, 150 orphaned children gathered in front of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in the presence of several officials and media to cover the event. Each coordinator submitted a list for his team to SATUC to make sure they are identical to the lists provided by the Ministry of Social Solidarity. The SATUC team was there since the early morning waiting for the children who were chosen by the Ministry of Social Solidarity to participate in the tournament. The children and their supervisors arrived at 11 when the SATUC team gave them a warm welcome to ease their suffering from losing their families. They were offered water and juice before they were organized in one line.

50 orphaned children from Syria were present and 5 supervisors so that each one would be responsible for 10 children as agreed with the Ministry of Social Solidarity. SATUC team lined up the children before each child received a new sports bag like professionals that includes football clothing, towel, socks, training suit…etc. The orphans were very happy to have such an experience for the first time in their lives they passed through many difficulties because of the loss of their families. After the children and the supervisors received their sportswear, they headed to five large luxury buses to transport them to Sharm el-Sheikh. Official Egyptian media, as well as private televisions, were there to cover the unique event.

Everybody got in the busses including the official supervisors of the Egyptian Football Association:

10- Captain Khaled Ibrahim – Rehabilitation Specialist
11- Captain Sayed Said – Rehabilitation Specialist

The event was covered by Egyptian public television as well as several private televisions (al-Hayat, Mehwar, and Nahar) Meals, juices, and water bottles were distributed to people on board.

We tried to relieve their suffering and to provide a joyous atmosphere for them. The buses headed to Sharm el-Sheikh carrying the smiles of the children under extra security measures taken by Egyptian police to secure the convoy on its way from Cairo to Sharm el-Sheikh.

The journey was indeed fun and safe. Police opened the way before the buses during the trip that lasted for 8 hours with several stops to comfort the children and meet their needs.

The SATUC team headed by Sheikha Sheikha Al Thani was keen to talk with the children on the buses to motivate them to do their best in the tournament. She told them that there are some orphaned children who seized the opportunity and joined big teams like Hadi Nabil and Mohamed Isaac who joined the Wadi Degla team through their participation at the SATUC tournament in Cairo. The buses arrived at the city of Sharm el-Sheikh in the evening and stopped by the Hilton Sharks Bay hotel which was getting ready to receive the children for a big celebration. The children left the buses to enjoy the welcome ceremony of the hotel dedicated to them after their long trip from Cairo to Sharm el-Sheikh.

After the ceremony, the children checked in and got some rest before they headed to the restaurant and had dinner in the hotel that tried to provide all means of comfort for children. They went to sleep after eating dinner in order to prepare for the tournament the next day. The SATUC team headed by Sheikha Al Thani made sure everything is fine and the children were happy. On December 30, the city of peace received the Liberian football player George Weah who was named 1995 FIFA World Player of the Year. He is also an ambassador of SATUC. He received a warm welcome from Sheikha Sheikha Al-Thani, President of SATUC, as well as officials of the South Sinai Governorate and Tourism Promotion Authority. He wandered about Sharm el-Sheikh and took several photos with the people.

The Liberian football star went from one place to another with his attendant in the city of Sharm el-Sheikh since he had heard much about it before he accepts the invitation of Sheikha al-Thani. On the same day, the Guinean athlete Pascal Feindouno who became a professional football player at French and Swiss clubs arrived as an ambassador for the tournament to support the children. He really made the day for those children and promised to attend all tournaments of the orphans. The first ambassador of Egypt to arrive on that day was Hany Ramzy, the Egyptian football coach, and former defender who played as a professional football player in Germany for 15 years. He came in order to participate in this charity event and support orphans. He was welcomed by Sheikha Sheikha Al-Thani at the hotel.
