SATUC Cup Ambassador: RABAH MADJER

RABAH MADJER – ALGERIAN FOOTBALLER

A skilful and feared striker in his heyday, Rabah Madjer is widely regarded as one of the best Algerian football players of all time. He reached stardom as an F.C. Porto player during the 1980s, where he is fondly remembered for helping secure the club’s first ever European Cup in 1987. In the final against Bayern Munich, Madjer wrote himself into the European Cup history books by scoring an outrageous back-heeled equaliser late in the game, before setting up the winner in memorable scenes four minutes later.

One of the most prolific Algerian internationals in number of games and goals, Madjer played in two World Cups, helping the Algerian national team to its first ever participation in 1982. Having taken up coaching immediately after retiring, he managed several clubs, and also had several spells with the Algerian national side.
